Traveler’s Serenade: Victoria, featuring the exquisite voice of Victoria Boler, blends a range of vocal styles including classical, pop, folk, blues, and dramatic music with an emphasis on improvised melodic phrases in six modal scales. The library is designed to inspire composers looking to inject fresh vocal elements into their music and spoiler alert – it does with flying colors!
After I created a quick mock-up using the library, I was immediately taken by the beauty of Boler’s voice. Her voice is stunning and wonderfully captured for the library with emotional depth and versatility. Traveler’s Serenade: Victoria offers a wide array of phrases in various keys and modes, and her vocal presence is incredibly strong across the board.
The multi-sampled instrument provides a range of aahs, oos, ohs, and humming samples, all with simulated legato and dynamic layers triggered by velocity. One way I felt I got more out of the library is by midi-learning the modwheel to the instruments volume control, which, when combined with legato, allows for much more realistic and expressive playback. This gave me the flexibility to sculpt the dynamics in a way that felt organic and natural.
The humming articulations were a particular favorite of mine. They’re musical, creative, and offer something special. The short staccato notes are available as separate articulations, further adding to the instrument’s versatility. The more I played around with the multi-sampled instrument, the more it excited me—the vocals feel expressive and, most importantly, natural.
One of the most unique aspects of the library is the ambiences samples in the multi-sampled instrument, which are truly a work of art. The sound design here is top-notch, and there isn’t a dud in the batch. These ambiences provide an added layer of depth and creativity to the library, serving as a fantastic tool for creating atmospheric and emotive soundscapes.
The phrase instruments give users access to four keys and six modes. I found the phrases absolutely delightful and quickly got hooked on stacking them to create unique vocal combinations. The Phrases instruments includes a sync feature to match playback to your DAW’s tempo, playback at recorded speed or playback Wirth a variable speed controlled with the slider.
The legato switch allows for smooth transitions between phrases, but success here depends on finding the right phrases to chain together for fluid movement. With over 3,100 phrases in the library, there’s plenty of room to explore and find the perfect vocal lines for your project.
After finishing the video review I realized I must not have captured playback using the phrase sequencer which allow you to shape, blend and sequence phrases.
The instrument also includes a Space control that allows you to move the singer closer to or further from the mic, giving you flexibility in crafting your mix. The built-in FX are what you’d expect from Soundiron, with lush reverb options and the ability to build custom FX racks. There are also preset options to push things even further out creatively or give you an idea of just how far you can go with effect alone.
Traveler’s Serenade Victoria is an impressive and inspiring vocal library. From the natural expressiveness of the multi-sampled instruments to the beautifully crafted ambiences and vast array of phrases, there’s a lot to explore. The voice of Victoria Boler is truly the star here, and her performance shines through in every aspect of the library.
