This is Not a Piano is the result of a new and, until now, untested concept. Instead of creating sound design layers using a prepared piano, Audio Brewers have created sound design experiments and then recorded the resonances those sounds trigger when played through an upright piano. Audio Brewers continue to forge their own path in the world of sample libraries. This is Not a Piano starts with an innovative and outside-of-the-box concept that leads to plenty of beautiful textures and sounds.

The idea? Record a bunch of different unique sounds, fill an upright piano with speakers, play these unique sounds through the speakers, and record the resonance responses and reactions from the piano. On the surface, This is Not a Piano might seem to be limited – with only 20 articulations and 20 presets the casual observer might be tempted to mistakenly assume this instrument isn’t very deep. This is far from the truth. This is Not a Piano is not only unique, but the sound design capabilities offered within are far-reaching as well.

From piano-like sounds to grainy and dusty pads, to interesting pulses and arpeggios, This is Not a Piano is designed for layering, mangling, and creating something sonically new and interesting. The Kontakt engine Audio Brewers have created to accompany these unique sounds is also innovative and intuitive, allowing you to assign LFOs to one layer, dynamic modulation to another, and other FX to even yet another layer. In fact, This is Not a Piano is not actually a five-layered instrument – each patch includes 10 articulations that can each be layered in 5 ways, with unique modulation rigging for each one. This means almost limitless combinations to ensure you can easily come up with something unique. This is Not a Piano is unique, interesting, fun, and beautiful. Audio Brewers continue to think outside the box and push sampling into new realms.

This is Not a Piano requires the full version of Kontakt 6.2.1 and downloads via the Pulse downloader. It downloads as 39GB and includes both stereo and Ambisonic versions. There are 20 unique articulations with patches for sustained, reverse, and looped sounds. There are also 20 included presets.
