Checking Out: Motus by Cinematic Alpha

Unusual character and timbre
Nice shimmer/sparkle effect on the top-end via the Animate effect on modwheel for some patches
Some nice piano-inspired pads
Not a lot of variety in the patches
Cinematic Alpha has dubbed Motus a “Conceptual Upright Piano,” as it is a fully synthetic instrument created from synthesis and morphing. This unreal upright piano has a unique cinematic quality that allows it to punch through a cluttered mix.

Checking Out: Motus by Cinematic Alpha
Motus synthetically replicates an upright piano, but in an unusual way, providing both a playable simulated upright piano and piano-like pads.
Motus starts with an unusual concept – present a playable upright piano that isn’t actually a piano. Motus uses a combination of synthesis and morphing to create an upright piano-like instrument that includes both playable patches and pads with a piano-inspired quality. The playable piano patches have a reverberating cinematic tone with plenty of mid-range and top end. That familiar mid-range, almost nasal tone that you would expect from an upright piano is here, but it feels distant and somewhat detuned. The playable patches can provide some nice melodies to pierce through a cluttered mix, while the pads have a piano-like quality to them, with plenty of ambience to go around. I do wish a less detuned playable piano patch was included, but the charm of a traditional upright piano is there with the air and reverb that would fit right into an ambient track. With 10 individual and 10 multi patches, Motus isn’t a large library, but it does have a character and origin that make it unique.
