As jazz is all about realism, performance, and nuance, sampling such instruments is a difficult task. While getting the general timbres right is hard enough, getting the instrument to sound lifelike and real is a huge challenge. Straight Ahead Samples clearly like a challenge as they have managed to produce an instrument so lifelike, that you feel as though the performer is standing right in front of you. While the articulations need programming via keyswitches, this is a simple task as great results take seconds to achieve. With the Smart Delay function, MIDI phrases become human phrases and suddenly you have a world class-performance on your hands. I’m excited to see such innovation in sampling and this will be my mainstay clarinet for years to come.
