Checking Out: Evolution Django Jazz by Orange Tree Samples

by

Evolution Django Jazz captures the distinct acoustic guitar sound made famous by Django Reinhardt and is a testament to virtual guitar software performing with realism and character. This Kontakt Player instrument is spot on for creating “gypsy jazz” but also offers a wide range of presets that will sit in many styles of score or song.

Review: Evolution Django Jazz by Orange Tree Samples

As both a fan of the developer’s virtual guitar libraries for Kontakt and the work of Belgian-born Romani-French jazz guitarist and composer, Django Reinhardt, I was thrilled to hear the Orange Tree Samples team had focused their microphones on a recreation of Django’s own Selmer 503 guitar.

As a performer and guitarist, Django Reinhardt is credited with defining the “gypsy jazz” genre so I had some high expectations for this release. Opening up the library, I had two main questions: One, how close to realistic playback were we going to get from the new library? And two, how easy would it be to get that Django-style chord chunking sound?

In this video, I check out the latest release from Orange Tree Samples, Evolution Django Jazz having a listen through the presets, diving into the demo midi files, and trying to find out what is the easiest way to get the most realistic sound out of the new Kontakt Player instrument.
