Review Soaring Strings from Musical Sampling

It’s usually that last 10% push that brings authenticity and emotion to a midi track and that’s where Scoring Strings comes it. I can’t imagine not using Soaring Strings now that I have heard the difference.

Review Soaring Strings Musical Sampling

Soaring Strings sells for $249 from Musical Sampling

It would have been enough for Soaring Strings to win me over with it’s beautiful sample set and smooth and expressive legato, but this library is so easy to use I barely had to touch my midi after first performing to get beautiful playback. Easy to use and full of emotion I can’t image not using this library in my template now that I have heard it. For all those reasons Soaring Strings is receiving our PRO KIT award for tools professionals should seriously consider adding into their arsenal.

The library was recorded with a “medium” sized ensemble with a focus on capturing molto espressivo vibrato performances.  It does that wonderfully. The sample set is beautifully expressive. The instrument is easy and straight forward to use with Sustain presets for kontakt for the full ensemble (All Strings) as well as each section (Violins, Violas, Celli and Double Bass’). These patches contain 5 dynamics layers from pp to fff with both full and soft versions.

The Legato section patches are where the instrument really shines. Each legato patch has 4  dynamics of legato (p < fff) and includes  true legato samples for the FFF dynamic as well.

As you can see the interface is about as simple as can be with only 3 real options: Repetition control ( True Bow-Change repetition samples on/off) which really add to the realism, a To Silence button which will utilize some scripting to all the dynamics to go all the way to no sound (as opposed to pp or p) and the Dynamic CC assignment, which by default is set to CC1 for your modwheel to control the dynamics of the patches.

All the instruments were sampled in the traditional seating in the hall so you don’t need to think about panning or placement to get them to play well together.

Soaring Strings downloads as 4 GB contains 48khz/24bit  samples and dows require the full version of  Kontakt 5.5.1 or higher.

In total you get 14 kontakt presets inculding 4 Legato instruments: Violins, Violas, Cellos,  Basses. 5 Sustains (Full) All Strings, Violins, Violas, Cellos,  Basses, 5 Sustains (Soft) All Strings, Violins, Violas, Cellos, Basses.
