Thoughts
Matt Bowdler (aka, The Unfinished) has long been my go-to sound designer when I’m looking to breathe new life into my soft synths. When you are looking for fresh inspiration, he has a knack for creating sounds that make you remember why you purchased your soft synth in the first place. In Omnisphere Cyberia, Matt has really outdone himself by delivering a large set of bold, intense, and aggressive patches that can either set the course for or greatly enhance your scoring work. I felt like a kid in a candy store as I clicked through these patches, knowing at first listen that a number of these were going to end up helping my tracks sound amazing.

The sound set includes the following categories: ARP + BPM, Bowed Colors, Guitars, Hits and Bits, Hybrid Instruments, Keyboards, Noisescapes, Pads + Strings, Synth Bass, Synth Poly, Synth Sweep, Textures Playable, Textures Soundscapes, and Transition Effects. My personal favorites here were the ARP + BPM, Bowed Colors, Pads + Strings, Textures Playable, and Textures Soundscapes, so let’s talk about those.
I often see posts in various composer groups on Facebook asking for recommendations for pulses or pulse libraries. I have even posted a few of those inquiries myself. The usual suspects are almost always mentioned with a new name popping up on occasion. Well, Omnisphere Cyberia should be added to that list! There is a wide selection of pulses contained within the ARP + BPM category that I am very excited about. The great thing about the pulses on offer here is that they are more than one-trick ponies, as using the modwheel on many of these causes them to morph in timbre and, at times, even speed. If you’ve worn out the pulses in your collection you just might find fresh inspirational fodder here.
I’m a sucker for bowed instruments and am consistently adding new tones and timbres to my collection. The Bowed Colors in Omnisphere Cyberia are stellar. The modwheel introduces distortion into a number of these, taking them to a whole other level. There are only 9 patches in this category, but nothing in the list got less than 4 stars in my ratings (and most got 5!).
Like everyone else, I love pads. Lately, I have been underwhelmed with much of what I have been hearing. Nowadays, so many pads seem repetitive or like well-worn territory to me. The pads in Omnisphere Cyberia are unique and fresh sounding. Once again, the modwheel is used to great effect, with a number of these introducing distortion for a more aggressive tone. I love these pads!

The textures in Omnisphere Cyberia come in two varieties: playable textures and soundscape textures. While few in number (10), the playable textures make their presence felt. It’s hard to imagine not liking a sound whose name is “Intense City” (what a great play on words!) or “Triangulation.” Once again, use that modwheel wisely and you will be rewarded! Finally, the 40 different soundscape textures offer a terrific way to set the mood for your track or underscore. These patches would feel right at home in action, adventure, or even horror work.
Omnisphere Cyberia is probably my favorite sound set at the moment, not only for Omnisphere 2, but for any soft synth I own.
Does anything more need to be said?!?
