First Look: Piano Toy by Audio Brewers

Yes, it’s small and cute but it packs a mighty punch! This often-overlooked tiny instrument has found a place in my template and a fondness in my heart. This beautifully sampled Toy piano boasts not only an amazing six-octave range thanks to Audio Brewer’s “sample deconstruction” technique but layered articulations & sound design patches.

First Look: Piano Toy by Audio Brewers

Audio Brewers are a class act. Their engine is absolutely great and they are developing new sampling techniques. Let’s take the humble Toy Piano. It’s small, beautiful and perfect. In a 29 euro instrument, Audio Brewers have turned this tiny instrument into a six-octave instrument through their sample deconstruction technique. We aren’t talking just pitch-shifting the samples here, this is some next-level sampling. The existing samples are split into three layers and recombined to create pitches far below and above the natural range of the instrument. Also included are three mic perspectives, a stack of sound design and the ability to keep on creating new sounds from the sample set. None of this would matter if it wasn’t for the sublime initial sampling of the toy piano. The sample set is also delivered in ambisonic form. In short, value for money aside, Audio Brewers are fast getting a reputation for making great instruments with endless sound design capabilities. If you need great instruments, look no further.
