Checking Out: Spheres I by Levitate With Sound
Levitate With Sound makes its debut with Spheres I, a morphing sound design tool built for crafting immersive atmospheres and cinematic textures. Developed by the team behind Real Slow Motion — known for their prolific trailer placements — Spheres I is the first in a new series of Kontakt-based instruments housed in the company’s custom Fusion Engine. After spending a full morning exploring it, I can confidently say: this instrument has a sonic fingerprint that stands out in today’s crowded cinematic toolkit lineup
The moment you load Spheres I, you’re greeted with hypnotic, evolving textures that seem to breathe on their own. The instrument features 40 curated presets, each offering a unique blend of tonal and textural motion. Whether you’re crafting suspenseful underscore, ambient soundscapes, or sci-fi atmospheres, Spheres I encourages exploration.. Many of the presets feel like they could be held for minutes without becoming stale, thanks to the deep morphing and subtle modulation.
The Fusion Engine is highly intuitive. Each sound consists of two layers, with an XY control panel allowing real-time movement between them. Users can assign a wide range of parameters to the X and Y axes, such as filter cutoff, panning, pitch, and volume, then control those modulations using MIDI CCs. The interface includes delay, reverb, and multiple effects that can drastically reshape the source samples.
The Design Panel allows you to dig into the sample sources directly. You can switch layers on and off, mute XY motion, and explore how filters, EQs, and modulation transform basic sounds into complex, cinematic textures. While there’s no randomization function, users can manually sculpt evolving atmospheres with precision.
Spheres I is rich with emotional and atmospheric depth. There’s a cohesiveness to the sound library, i am guessing due to it being crafted by a small, focused team of composers, that gives Spheres I a distinct character. It feels purpose-built for ambient scores, trailer sound design, and even abstract electronic compositions.
The long, layered samples can be tweaked to sound completely new, especially with the help of the engine’s modulation and effects. While randomization would be a welcome feature, the current setup still offers nearly endless customization for composers willing to dive in.
Spheres I is a thoughtfully designed tool with a clear sonic identity. It’s ideal for composers looking for rich, morphing soundscapes that don’t require complex programming to sound cinematic. The interface is clean, the sounds are hypnotic, and the engine provides enough depth to keep you inspired for hours.
If ambient, sci-fi, or trailer music is in your workflow, Personally, I found myself completely immersed, losing track of time while exploring its presets — and that’s usually a good sign.
