EDDA immediately impressed me with its high-quality recordings and inventive design. The Tagelharpas are a standout—especially the deeper, grittier instruments that carry that slightly–out-of-tune, raw, and organic vibe. The inclusion of multiple legato types brings a sense of realism and flexibility that makes it feel like you’re playing a living, breathing instrument. It’s clear that Wavelet Audio went to great lengths to not only capture the soul of the instrument but to also make it playable in a way that’s intuitive and inspiring and possibly never before done.
The built-in sequencer for the Tagelharpa is a great touch, and while I didn’t demonstrate it in the video, the MIDI drag-and-drop feature is a simple but powerful workflow tool. It lets you quickly move those authentic rhythms into your DAW and onto other instruments like drums, making it easy to build arrangements that stay cohesive.
While the natural D major/minor tuning of the instrument imposes some key restrictions, Kontakt’s pitch shifting can help extend usability for probably 3 or so steps in each direction without introducing artifacts. That said, EDDA doesn’t try to do too much—and that’s one of its strengths. It embraces its old-world charm and delivers an otherworldly atmosphere with elegance and authenticity. If you’ve enjoyed libraries like Dark Era or Groth, EDDA builds upon those ideas in new and compelling ways.
