Thoughts
Audio Brewers continue to deliver unique takes on commonly sampled instruments. With Crescent, Audio Brewers have returned to this concept with their own special twist. Crescent derives its name from the half-moon arrangement of the cello quartet that has been sampled for this library. There are a number of things to like within Crescent, such as the intuitive engine and great sound, but I especially find the polyphonic legato and wealth of articulations on offer here to be the standouts of this library.
Audio Brewers have developed a unique polyphonic legato with 2 speeds of portamento (fast/slow) that allow you to easily sit down and play a piece from start to finish without worrying about stacking multiple MIDI channels.
For slow, expressive pieces, this polyphonic legato is beautiful and convincing. The scripting under the hood here is impressive. The wealth of articulations within Crescent is also impressive – from the standard shorts and sustains to unique articulations(such as half and whole downs and ups), Crescent includes 31 articulations for a wide variety of playing styles. As always, Audio Brewers have provided us with a flexible engine that includes the ability to stack multiple articulations, modulate parameters, an XY modulation pad, and plenty of onboard effects and mixing options. Crescent is an excellent addition to your cello repertoire.
