Checking Out: Cinematic Alpha: Doors of Time Present by Andrew Fly/Cinematic Alpha

Brilliant sampling and sound design housed in a simple but striking GUI
Easy to use and a huge range of drums and basses
Tempo synced to your DAW
Built in distortion, delay and eq are useful tools
Perfect for the composer on the go
If we had the percussion samples as playable one shots that would be the icing on the cake
Andrew Fly moves from “PAST” to PRESENT” with the brilliant follow up in his The Doors of Time trilogy. This time around it’s all about drum and bass loops! With both 4/4 and ¾ time signatures catered for with a stack of multis thrown in too, this toolkit will give your action and trailer scores an instant backbone and solid foundation. If you’re looking for a great rhythmic toolkit to add to your composing palette, you can’t go wrong with this!

I found working with the first installment of this trilogy, The Doors of Time: Past, not only a whole lot of fun but also I found it to be inspiring. The sound design and sampling were both great and I loved the quirky GUI with the retro videos playing every time you trigger a sample. Andrew Fly has repeated the same quality of instrument with this second installment. Drums and basses are always needed throughout any underscore or trailer and this library delivers these in spades.
The loops are well thought out and interlock perfectly. With additional multis, Andrew is really spoiling us. Having a filter on the modwheel is a great touch so dynamics can be controlled perfectly. While I have used the term “simple” in this review, there is nothing simple about how the instrument was put together and the samples created. The hours that turned into days, that turned into months to create this instrument is apparent. I’ve already started using The Doors of Time: Present in my own cues and I feel the vast range of loops will keep this my go to loop instrument for a long while yet.
