Thoughts

Berlin Strings has been an ongoing project from Orchestral Tools for several years now. As a whole, the Berlin Strings Bundle might be the most complete strings package available anywhere. With Berlin Con Sordino Strings, the Berlin Strings Bundle now includes 7 volumes: Berlin Strings, Berlin Symphonic Strings, Berlin Special Bows I & II, Berlin Strings SFX, Berlin Strings First Chairs, and now, Berlin Con Sordino Strings. Berlin Con Sordino Strings continues the excellence of the Berlin Strings series, but this time takes us into a warm and muted landscape that is perfect for cinematic underscore. There is a plethora of both standard and special articulations available, but all delivered in true con sordino (not simulated or scripted). If you are looking for a muted, warm, cinematic strings package, Berlin Con Sordino Strings is hard to beat.

Orchestral Tools now offers the entire Berlin Strings series in a single bundle: The Berlin Strings Bundle. Across all libraries, there are over 550 articulations, numerous section sizes (from solo to symphonic), and consistent microphone positions. One of the best parts about this bundle is that all 7 volumes were recorded using the exact same setup at the Teldex Scoring Stage in Berlin. This allows each library to blend seamlessly with the others, meaning you can truly emulate the intricacies and variety that only a real string orchestra can offer. However, within the Berlin Strings Bundle, not only have Orchestral Tools delivered a new volume (Berlin Con Sordino Strings), but they have also delivered several updates to the previous libraries. Berlin Strings SFX is now available on the Sine Player, Berlin Symphonic Strings has received several updates (including a new multi-vibrato layer and legato layer within the violins I, a new portato articulation for violins I, viola, and cello, and legato adjustments across all instruments), and the Sine Player itself has received updates to the UI, an improved legato system, and VST3 support. Recently, Orchestral Tools stated that the Berlin Strings series will continue to receive new volumes and updates for several years to come. This makes Berlin Strings not only one of the most complete string packages available but a living strings project that will continue to provide more expression and beauty to an already thorough orchestral strings package. I’m blown away at the sheer beauty, depth, and variety available within the Berlin Strings Bundle. Orchestral Tools continues to blow me away with their meticulous and fantastic string sampling endeavors.
