For the developer’s 3rd release, Wavelet Audio set out to create an expressive and emotive multi-sampled cello library “designed to work in a wide context. From dark ambient and experimental to orchestral and trailer music.” and they have succeeded.
The library comes with 2 main NKIs, a very nice multi-sampled instrument and a creative and inspirational Performance Designer instrument.
The multisampled instrument delivers beautiful timbre and come with a nice range of articulations including Sustains, Sul Pont, Spiccato, Sul Pont Spiccato, Faulando, Pizz, Credit Card, Open String, Trem, 8va and Percussion. The library comes with true legato for many of the articulations which respond nicely although a note here that those looking for soaring legatos, portamentos or glissando like legatos will need to look elsewhere.
The Performance Designer instrument is really the icing on the cake with a diverse range of performances, which tempo sync to your DAW, and load into a 5 channel Kontakt loop player. The stand out for the Performance Designer is the performances themselves delivered with passion which add another dimension to the instrument and supply the users with sounds and phrases you would be unable to achieve with a multi-sampled instrument.
I was a huge fan of Wavelet Audio‘s first release, Senfine (see the SLR review here) and am so pleased to see the developer branch out into the most tricky area of sample development (solo strings) and come out with a useful and great sounding tool for composers and producers of all kinds. I’ll be using this Kontakt Player library in my own work as I am sure many composers for film, tv and games will be as well.
