The Bends & Angklung The Bamboozler

The Facts

The Bends & Angklung The Bamboozler are 2 separate libraries from Modwheel’s Creative Differences series.

The Bends contains 30 patches made from 750 samples of an array of metal gongs, cymbals & plates being played while immersed in water. The Bends was sampled at 24bit 96kHz and contains a 1.4GB core library (0.7GB via lossless compression).
The Bends requires the full version Kontakt 5.3.0 or higher and retails for $35.00 (USD)

Angklung The Bamboozler contains 1570 samples of tuned bamboo angklungs. It comes with 23 patches of 24bit 96kHz and is made up of a 2.58GB Core Library (1.4GB via lossless compression)
Angklung The Bamboozler requires the full version Kontakt 5.3.0 or higher and at time of writing was listed as a special intro price of $15.00 (USD)

Thoughts

I have to admit, I heard the demos of Angklung and got very excited. I love the quirky sound of this instrument and am a big fan of the Modwheel sound. With both The Bends & Angklung The Bamboozler Modwheel continue the tradition of capturing percussion with their magic sampling recipe giving a fresh, live and exciting playback with every patch.

Now, it is important to note that these are 2 of the 4 instruments that Modwheel has released in it’s Creative Differences Series. The first being HUMDRUM and the other being the FREE Worldy Goods library. They are unique and quirky and not for everyone, but if you are desiring to add something unique/ unusual/different to your compositions than I highly recommend you check these out.

I really like how Modwheel has programmed a handful of the instruments to have alternative control by using the modwheel (filters, distortion, wave form synthesis) but when I find an instrument with a certain effect control, I sometimes wish I could apply it to other patches. If I am going to be critical I would have to say that I would have liked to have seen more controls or options of assigning different effects to the modwheel during playback. That said, at retail price of 15/35 USD I still feel that you’ll surely get your money’s worth with both of these libraries.
