Review: Cello Ibrida by PulseSetter-Sounds

Large collection of cello-based pads, pulses, and playable instruments
Great collection of sound source patches that can be used as traditional cello samples
Great Kontakt engine with a creative routing matrix and macros
Two independent sound sources with independent controls, arpeggiators, LFOs, effects, etc.
Lots of sound design possibilities
The volume can vary greatly between snapshots and sound sources
PulseSetter-Sounds have a way of taking interesting sound sources and squeezing something epic out of them. With Cello Ibrida, they take a traditional instrument, the cello, and have picked it, plucked it, and pulsed it into something unique and useful for both scoring and trailer work.
Combined with hardware synth sound sources and a great Kontakt engine, Cello Ibrida is a great addition to your toolkit.

Review: Cello Ibrida by PulseSetter-Sounds
PulseSetter-Sounds have been making epic trailer and hybrid film scoring tools for Kontakt, Omnisphere, and Zebra for a while now and I always look forward to seeing what they have in store. With Cello Ibrida, they have created a cello and hardware synth-based hybrid scoring tool with great snapshots and lots of sound design possibilities. Cello Ibrida brings texture and grit to lots of useful pulses, pads, and playable instruments.

Thoughts
PulseSetter-Sounds are one of the more innovative sample library companies working in world of hybrid instruments for scoring and trailer tools. Cello Ibrida continues this rich tradition. With ambiences, arps, basses, leads, pads, pulses, shorts, and traditional sound sources, there’s plenty to like about Cello Ibrida. The combination of cello samples with samples from various complementary hardware synths is a good one. As always, PulseSetter-Sounds have created an impressive Kontakt interface that allows you to warp and mangle the sound sources into a plethora of useful and creative sounds. However, there are plenty of snapshots on offer (500) for those of you who are more interested in grabbing a ready-made sound instead of creating your own. The only real complaint I have about Cello Ibrida is that the volume of the snapshots, and the sound sources making up the snapshots, can vary greatly. You will want to keep that in mind as you adjust your speakers to ensure you don’t accidentally go from a quiet preset to one that rattles your speakers. Cello Ibrida is a useful scoring tool that would make a nice addition to any composer who works in underscore or trailer work.
Facts
Cello Ibrida runs in the full version of Kontakt 5.8 or higher. It includes 500 snapshots based on 19 different categories of sound sources using cello and hardware synths and downloads at around 6 GB. The Kontakt engine uses two soundsource layers with independent effects chains, LFOs, and arpeggiators. Cello Ibrida is available from PulseSetter-Sounds for $149.00 but is available for the introductory price of $129.00 at time of review.
