The Bowed Textures Bundle from The Sample Company takes Omnisphere 2 to an unexpected place; aleatoric effects, drones, soundscapes and atmospheres from bowed instruments. This set of presets are dark, rich and full of character, and have already found their way into my own work.

Thoughts
Dark, lush, and raw are the best words I can think of to describe the Bowed Textures Bundle. This bundle from The Sample Company contains 210+ patches of drones, soundscapes, atmospheres, and aleatoric effects for Omnisphere 2.3 or above. These presets are great for filling out your compositions with high-quality textures and soundscapes, and there are even a few traditional melodic patches like “A Modern Cello” or “Cello Spiccato” that allow you to add stringed instruments to your composition without needing to invest in an entire orchestral library.
The modwheel brings many of these presets to life, and especially so when working with an innovative feature that has been used in the “scrub” patches. The Sample Company have worked within the Steam engine to put the modwheel in control of the granular parameters of the “scrub” patches (ie. “Bark Cello Scrub” or “Experibass Atonal Stab Scrub A”). This causes the modwheel to allow you to “scrub” through the sound source file and freeze different sections of the file in real time. Since the modwheel controls layers from 1-127, you are almost experiencing 127 different tones within the patch.
This is a very innovative and useful feature that can pull a vast array of emotions from within a single patch. As you can imagine, this is very useful for scoring to picture, as you can use these dynamic patches to follow the emotion of a scene via the use of the modwheel. Very cool! There are around 50 different “scrub” patches contained within the bundle.
There are many useful presets within the Bowed Textures Bundle, so if you are looking for deep, dark drones, rich, full-bodied soundscapes, or screeching, rattling aleatoric effects from stringed instruments like cello and bass (or even piano) that won’t empty your wallet, look no further. This bundle for Omnisphere 2 will provide you with plenty of rattles, screeches, and bottom end to keep your neighbors awake for nights to come!
