Review: Appassionata Strings by Spitfire Audio

With a huge variety of high-quality string libraries already available at Spitfire Audio, what possibly could they do next? Enter Appassionata Strings, a whole new library that is dedicated to soaring lyrical melodies featuring a mid-sized string section that has been recorded with Spitfire Audio’s all new “impulse” legato technique. Appassionata Strings comes complete with five dynamic layers, four round robins and a whole host of mic options. With the recording taking place in the spiritual home of Spitfire, Lyndhurst Hall at AIR Studios, this is one library that has instantly found a place in my template to create huge melodies with tons of movement and expression.

It’s no secret that I use Spitfire Audio libraries in every single production I make. The reason being is that Spitfire Audio time and time again release quality instruments. In recent months they have brought use consistent quality like Abbey Road Two, Hammers, The Stack and Albion Solstice. Not to mention the brilliant addons to Abbey Road One. Appassionata Strings is designed to give the composer the lush sound of Lyndhurst Hall combined with soaring and acrobatic legato. As a standalone library I found the arrangements effortless and a polished cinematic sound is easy to achieve. When combined with the likes of Symphony Strings or Hans Zimmer Strings, the magic really starts to fly. Appassionata Strings not only sound incredible, but with the variety of mic mixes, they can fit into any musical situation. These have certainly found a way into my template and they make gorgeous legato effortless.
