My favorite of the series thus far. Soundiron continues the Hopkin Instrumentarium by sampling a giant custom-made lamellaphone and the results are wonderful. The raw acoustic articulations alongside layers and sound design patches can stand on their own or blend beautifully into orchestral or acoustic ensembles.

Quick Look: Hopkin Instrumentarium Miago Trod by Soundiron
Soundiron continues the Hopkin Instrumentarium by sampling a giant custom-made lamellaphone. If you have no idea what a lamellaphone is don’t feel bad. It is a resonating tuned percussion instrument created by master instrument inventor Bart Hopkin. The physical instrument is made up of threaded rods of up to 22 feet, they produce deep tone and character thanks to generating subsonics and overtones.
I’ve been a big fan of what Soundirong are doing with this Hopkin Instrumentarium series of sample libraries and this is my favorite of the series thus far thanks to the diverse range of articulations from the sample set. The Miago Trod comes with mallet, shaft, soft pluck, hammer, tap, bounce, slides, percussion and effects articulations.
Thanks to Soundiron‘s latest Kontakt engine, users have the ability to layer multiple articulations as well as the “miambiences” and sub-synth tones to create playback with depth, character and subtlety.
Getting a chance to combine the layers and play with included LFO, filter and Arp and FX rack the results are wonderful. The raw acoustic articulations sonic quality is the stand out here with the sound design patches offering more experimental textures, tones and rhythmic inspiration.
Of all the instruments in the Hopkin Instrumentarium series my ears are telling me this one will blend beautifully into orchestral or acoustic ensembles as well.
