First Look: Synthetic Strings NP03 by Heavyocity
It was with some hesitation that I downloaded Heavyocity‘s latest edition in its NOVO series: Synthetic Strings.
You see I have never been much of a “synth” guy myself and although the demo audio sounded amazing, I was unsure if this library was something that I personally would be excited about. Anyone who has been following along and learning from my current musical project in the (shameless plug) SLR Workshops knows I always use the same synth . . ..every damn time!
The differences between modern and vintage synths has never been of much interest (I did mention I am not a synth guy right?) so why would the new Synthetic Strings library change my mind about utilizing and embracing the power of synths now?
Modern Synths Patch
The answer as you can see in the First Look video is “by the example of Heavyocity‘s talent sound design team”.
Playing through the presets and getting a feel for the library was eye-opening. There is a movement in modern scoring that utilizes old synths in new ways and I have never really taken to that style to be honest. But, after having a good play with Synthetic Strings I feel like I now have the understanding, the engine and the tool to possibly push my tracks closer to that contemporary sound and allow me to forge ahead with my own musical ideas.

As you can see this review doesn’t really comment on the functionality or diversity of the instrument itself but is much more self-reflective. I will include the official videos below which do a great job of showing functionality and the engine (below)
The trigger to have this self-reflection is where the value lies (for me) in this instrument. Synthetic Strings is a hybrid synth instrument that I believe will catapult some of my work into modern sounding gems. The intuitive nature and power of the Novo engine is packed full of inspiration and I am declaring that this will go into my trailer toolkit ASAP, as I think this collection of vintage and modern synth samples will propel my next scores to the outer limits of what I thought was imaginable.
