First Look: Spitfire Studio Strings by Spitfire Audio

In this first look I take a listen to see and hear what Spitfire Studio Strings has to offer right out of the box.

Thoughts

When I first read the announcement that Spitfire was releasing the Spitfire Studio Strings I was very excited as this seems like just the String library many of us have been waiting for.  The ensembles are just a little larger than the Spitfire Chamber Strings library which is still a favorite of mine, but the differences were clear in the promo material and the demos (hear the official demos below).

While the Chamber Strings was a sample set of smaller chamber ensembles recorded in The Hall at Air Studios, London, with it’s lush and filmic tail, the new Studio Strings was recorded in Studio One, a great sounding yet noticeably smaller space. By delivering the new Studio Strings with this “dry” sample set I immediately was excited about the possibilities to control the reverb tail and shape this new library into my template with sends out to my premium dedicated convolution and algorithmic reverb plugins. This is very useful for when you are combining multiple developers libraries and trying to get them to fit into the same room.

My first impressions is that this library is all about control . . . and a great sounding sample set.!  The samples out of the box sound great. I plan on subbing them into my nest project to see how they perform and just what this extremely lively and broad range of articulations all me to do.

It won’t be until I have had some time using them in real-world projects to share more thoughts and critique. But from the first look alone I absolutely am loving them.

Spitfire Studio Strings downloads as 13.2 GB. This is the first release of Spitfire‘s new orchestral series of libraries that will be recorded with medium sized ensembles in Air Studio One.

Spitfire Studio Strings comes with main NKIs for Violin 1 & 2, Viola, Celli & Bass as well as Advanced instruments with variations of core, decorative and fx instruments with corresponding articulation, as well as dedicated legato instruments.

The library delivers 148 articulations in total with up to 3 dynamic layers and 2 round robins for longs and up to 4-8 dynamics for shorts.
