First Look: Soundscapes by Cinesamples

A departure from Cinesample’s usual symphonic stylings, Soundscapes explores sound design through a granular synthesis engine in Kontakt. With marketing material touting that the “possibilities are endless”, we dive in to find out what the developer’s pairing of samples with the engine delivers.

First Look: Soundscapes by Cinesamples

It is hard to surprise me when it comes to new releases from sample library and virtual instrument developers. After years of reviewing and checking out hundreds if not thousands of music software platforms, some developers become well known for certain styles and instruments.

That is exactly the case with CineSamples. Well established for their symphonic Hollywood sounds and capturing orchestral instruments on the MGM scoring stage in Los Angeles California, it was a surprise for your humble host to read about the developer’s latest release Soundscapes.

Soundscapes was designed to open up an entirely new sonic palette of tonal and atonal sound design through granular synthesis.

The library is a Kontakt Player instrument and comes with a wide range of samples that incorporate recordings from violinist Michael Levine.

Cinesamples are saying that with Soundscapes “the possibilities are endless” and I wouldn’t be surprised as granular synthesis tends to be an ever-expansive universe to create in. But how did the developer’s pairing of samples with the engine expand or innovate from previously released granular synths?

In this first look, we have a listen to the instrument and see what it’s all about.
