First Look: Landforms by Slate + Ash

by

Slate + Ash completely wowed us with their previous libraries, Cycles and Auras. Their innovative approach to sampling and unconventional instrument design was a clear winner in terms of not only being something different, but also highly inspirational and useable instruments. By comparison, Landforms is the larger sibling to these two libraries. With a whopping 104 GB sample pool and a crazy amount of ways you can manipulate them, Landforms is set to repeat the success of Cycles and Auras, and then some.

First Look: Landforms by Slate and Ash

If otherworldly patterns, textures, sound design are your thing, Landforms will help you carve out sonic landscapes that have never been heard before. Did I mention you can add your own samples to their engine? You can, and it’s fantastic.

Landforms on the surface of things, looks like a complex instrument. It is very straight forward once you have spent a little time with it. Within minutes I was conjuring up new sounds and lavish atmospheres. While it’s a niche product, Landforms really is capable of creating sublime pads and atmospheres to sounding downright scary, dramatic and tension filled. Yes, it is very versatile and it covers every shade of emotion and feeling in between. Aside form having a great new engine, the sound design capabilities are tremendous and with the ability to import your own samples, I’d hate to think of how many hours I could lose playing with this fascinating instrument. All of that aside? Would I use this in commercial projects? 100% yes!
