In a crowded world of sample libraries, Soundiron‘s Hopkin Instrumentarium is a breath of fresh air sampling one-of-a-kind instruments like no other. In the developers continued collaboration with custom instrument creator, Bart Hopkin the developer has released Rumba Boxes.
A Rumba Box is the name used in the English-speaking Caribbean for the bass kalimba and Soundiron‘s Rumba Boxes library features 2 unique handcrafted instruments as a Kontakt Player Instrument.
Rumba Boxes – Kontakt Player Instrument
For the library Soundiron used their sampling magic to capture a pristine sample set and offer 4 main NKI instruments with a range of natural plucked, picked and percussion articulations. The library is delivered in Soundiron‘s current interface with the ability to load multiple layers or the acoustic samples as well as ambience layers and a sub-synth layer.
What I love about these quirky multi-sampled instruments are that these playable articulations span the entire keyboard range and capture the acoustic essence of these one-of-kind instruments no matter how high or low you play them on your keyboard.

One of my favorite things about exploring a new Soundiron library is the ambience and FX presets that usually let shine the sound design talent of the developer. The 20 additional Custom FX preset NKI’s offer textures, pads, drones and are a testimate to the ability of this instrument to span from the more traditional sounding kalimba we expect to other-worldly ambiences, pulsing playable instruments, and atmospheric textures.

This instrument will be a welcome edition to composers creating music for picture or interactive scores.
