Sforzanto where have you been all my life!
Heavyocity is back with Forzo, a Brass sample library for Kontakt recorded at Skywalker Sound and delivered in the same powerful Hybrid engine as the developer’s NOVO series.

This library pushes sonic boundaries with an incredible organic sample set and the same top-tier hybrid sound design we have come to expect from the Heavyocity. I loved the library so much so that I forgot to criticize the lack of legatos!

Thoughts

After receiving so much positive feedback about last year’s NOVO: Modern Strings release,
Heavyocity’s David Fraser said they knew they had to go back and record brass next and thank God they did!

I am loving this instrument. It’s that rare romantic love you get with a piece of software that makes it difficult to clearly communicate what it is that causes the adoration. It’s also the kind of love that makes you overlook the shortcomings. Let me just get this out first: Forzo does not contain any legato articulation transitions.

For the creation of Forzo, the Heavyocity team joined up with composer Jason Graves, His works include scores for Alpha Protocol, Tomb Raider, Dead Space, The Order: 1886, Until Dawn, Evolve and Far Cry Primal.  The recording session for the library took place at the legendary Skywalker Sound with sound engineer Satoshi Mark Noguchi at the helm.

In the first look video above, I share opening up the library for the first time and having a listen to this Kontakt Player library’s instruments, articulations, and functionality.

Delivering articulations like Portato and Sforzando (Sforzanto where have you been all my life!) make the library stand out right away. But what really sets the library apart is the stunning sample quality. The depth and bite while playing back the organic brass delivers the kind of stereo imaging reminiscent of the Last Jedi score. This is a huge deal if you have ever spent time trying to recreate that brass sound captured in Williams’ soundtrack with expansive space and sonic excitement.

The hybrid section takes the instrument to another level.

After the Gravity series and Novo, one shouldn’t be surprised by the extent of the sound design this engine is capable of. But what did surprise me are the 400 brass loops presets. These presets go far beyond tweaked out synth-like arpeggios and contain such a massive collection of organic brass loop performances, playback it is sure to inspire hours of new scores I am betting will be heard on TV, film and games.

This library pushes sonic boundaries with an incredible organic sample set and the same top-tier hybrid sound design we have come to expect from Heavyocity. I am highly recommending this library for those working professionally.
