First Look: Didgeridoos by Soundiron
Soundiron has released Didgeridoos expanding this exciting and unique world instrument far beyond its natural sample set. For the library, Soundiron teamed up with Didgeridoosists William MacGavin and David Zagardo to create a very unique virtual instrument sampled from 16 different didgeridoos.
The didgeridoo is an ancient wooden horn originally made and played by the Aboriginal Peoples of Australia. Soundiron‘s take on it as a virtual instrument is built for composers and music creators can produce rhythms and melodies. The library features a wide variety of sustaining rhythmic grooves, vowel sounds, and beatbox-style staccatos and effect articulations.
The developer goes on to share that they are not looking to create a Didgeridoo library for the “traditional context” but instead have utilized their instrument creation and sound design skill to designed to “provide creative tools and new sonic possibilities for composers and musicians everywhere to explore.”
The individuals I have gotten to know in the Soundiron team have always seemed like really wonderful people and with this release, I am pleased to see they even have considered the instruments place among the Aboriginal people with cultural sensitivity stating:
“It is not intended to represent or replace the authentic realism, cultural importance and soul of traditional aboriginal musicianship and spiritual traditions.”
