Vienna Smart Spheres GUI

Vienna Symphonic Library has released the latest in their Starter Edition collection – Vienna Smart Spheres.

For this collection, the developer has taken a wide collection of their hand-picked, raw, acoustic and orchestral samples and transformed them into an expressive and playable hybrid instrument. Vienna Smart Spheres contains a collection of textures, pads and ambiances with a collection of “symphonic explorations” categorized as Basses, Leads, Pads, Plucks and Pulses.

Vienna Smart Spheres Preset Menu

The included presets showcase the power and variety of timbres the instrument offers. Vienna Smart Spheres is housed in VSL’s new Synchron Player. The Syncron Player contains an intuitive keyswitching system for articulation switching in their Dimensions Tree as well as utilizing the modwheel which is designated for manipulation of a “central sonic parameter” for each preset.

Vienna Smart Spheres Load/Purge Settings

The instruments default Settings (Enable slots on midi activity) allows for the keyswitching to load the articulations/samples requests while purging the sample sets you are not using keeping the instrument nimble.

The interface is color coded and loaded articulations “light up” on the interface while unloaded samples/articulations are greyed-out visually in the Dimension Tree.

The presets themselves are much more than just starting points for you to get in and manipulate the library. In my video (above), I found dozens of presets that had rich sonic timbres and would be immediately usable for a broad range of projects.

The Multi-Presets include a nice selection of the sample set with a collection of controllable Syncron Players FX added to the engines Mixer channels. These Multi-Presets seem useful for examples of what you would accomplish by programming Syncron Players FX with the sample set to design your own sounds. If you want to take the library even further, I recommend learning more about the Syncron Player controls. I have reviewed 2 instruments thus far in the Syncron Player and have to say that it is so easy to jump in and start using. Spend a little more time with the Synchron Player and you can learn about the more extensive FX and signal chain workflow for customization. I will include the Syncron Player official videos below.

In the video above I shared my experience opening up Vienna Smart Spheres for the first time, playing through a collection of the presets and was really pleased with the sonic sound design the instrument delivers. This library contains an expansive collection of sounds and I can see how this will be very useful for composers scoring for media as well as artists looking for fresh pads, pulses, and basses for their work.
