South is definitely not for everyone. But I love this sample set so much that I immediately starting incorporating the instruments into the current music I am scoring to give it a little ethnic flavor.

Thoughts
When I first heard about SOUTH, a collection of Italian, tambourine percussion instruments I thought “why do I need these?” Once I dug in and started checking out the 12 kontakt presets I quickly became a fan.
The instruments sampled include a Big Tambourine, a TAR (a tambourine of Egyptian origin) and a Big Tammorra (a large tambourine with tin cymbals) and the sample playback with depth and clarity. I love the sound of these instruments. So much so that I immediately starting incorporating the instruments into the current score I am creating.
South Simple Interface
With it’s simple yet effective interface. The main HITS presets allow you to play the instrument with a good amount of articulations varying from one HITS instrument to the next and enough round robins that you don’t get any machine gun effects.
The Loops presets are the icing on the cake as far as I am concerned. A nice set of over 240 loops are contained across the 9 Loop presets with instruments dedicated to tempo sync to your DAW.
My only complaint with the entire library is that with the samples being 44.1 the 170BPM loop instruments preset really can’t handle slowing down. At anything under 140BPM it starts to show artifacts in playback. I didn’t notice it on the other slower tempo sync’d presets. I was surprised to see the sample rate was 44.1k since the HITS instruments have so much depth and clarity!

South contains 3 Hit instruments of the 3 Tambourines and 9 Loop instruments with version that tempo sync to your DAW.
All samples for the instrument were recorded at 24bit/44.1K.
South contains Reverb and Delay controls on the front of the interface.
The library downloads as about 800MB’s and does require the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt 4.2.3 or above.
The instrument is very low memory intensive.
