Checking Out: Soundiron Horror Bundle

In this video I have a look and listen to what the 9 spooky instruments in Soundiron’s Horror Bundle have to offer, playing through a number of presets and getting a feel for the sample set and sound design included.

The collection contains all 6 of the “Sick” libraries (1 – 6) as well as the Aztec Death Whistle, Shudder & Theremin+

Playing through the instruments I have to say the I was pleasantly surprised at the diversity and range. I feel I would get my money’s worth out of the ambiances, impacts and risers alone.

One standout in the bundle for me is the Theremin+. This is just such a fun instrument to play. Soundiron has taken what is normally reserved for kitsch 1950’s Sci-fi B-Movie soundtracks and transformed it into a hybrid Theremin.

The Therimin+ comes with a diverse range of sublayer samples and sound design instruments which greatly extend the instrument’s usefulness and possibilities. This instrument most likely made it to the top of my list because I have had some serious hands-on experience with the library.  Theremin+ even made it into one of my album releases last year (Obscura EP) standing in for synth parts and bass lines.

The other stand out is also an instrument I have used often: Shudder. This is one of the JUNO VHS libraries and after reviewing the Glitch Hero release last year I am always pulling up this treasured collection of percussive sound design to add a dash of color to scores. SPECIAL NOTE HERE: Glitch Hero is one of the prizes on offer in the 10-Day 10k Celebration Giveaway so check it out here.

The Sick series (1-6) is a pretty big collection of sound design ranging from spooky to downright terrifying! This collection opens up endless possibilities for those scoring or creating sound design for both picture or audio stories. Flipping through a sampling of the presets in the Sick series was like a surprise around nearly every corner. I never knew what to expect with the sample set delivering everything from demonic growls to skin-crawling atmospheres that sounded like they were sampled in the 9th circle of hell.

Though it is obvious this collection won’t be for everyone, I found the Soundiron Horror Bundle to be a treasure trove of ghostly treats and I will be utilizing it for much more than just creating music for All Hallows Eve.
