Checking Out: Pēteris Vasks’ Strings by Orchestral Tools

Possibly the most beautiful string library I’ve heard to date, Pēteris Vasks’ Strings is simply a masterpiece. With both a detailed and warm chamber strings ensemble and first chair solo instruments, Pēteris Vasks’ Strings could very well become the go-to workhorse string library for many composers. Including both standard articulations and playing styles inspired by the work of Pēteris Vasks, Pēteris Vasks’ Strings is simply excellent.

Thoughts

Pēteris Vasks’ Strings is, simply stated, fantastic! There is just so much to celebrate here – from a beautiful warm tone and large number of standard and special articulations to the inclusion of both ensemble and solo instruments, it’s hard to give this library anything but effusive praise. In Pēteris Vasks’ Strings, Orchestral Tools have created one of the most beautiful string libraries I’ve ever heard. Both the ensemble and solo instruments are dripping with emotion and evoke one of the warmest and richest tones I’ve encountered. This library drips with authenticity. Not only was it recorded in collaboration with Pēteris Vasks himself, but it was also recorded at St. John’s Church in Rīga, Latvia (the home of Pēteris Vasks), and features Pēteris Vasks’ preferred first chair soloists and the Sinfonietta Rīga from Rīga, Latvia. Pēteris Vasks’ Strings might just be the most beautiful collection of strings I’ve yet come across.
