Thoughts
Octa was a bit unexpected for me, as the Chris Hein instruments I have used before are all focused on giving total control over fairly realistic orchestral samples and solo instruments. Octa is more like a synth or romper-style workstation, and strikes me as a library more geared towards live performance and keyboardists. The ability to combine up to eight instruments is a nice idea and will certainly be useful for the aforementioned uses, and will undoubtedly inspire keyboardists and songwriters alike, though I found it does struggle to compete in the realm of more modern, cinematic style sounds. The sequencer and modulation options are all nicely implemented and it does offer a lot of content, but it also feels undoubtably “old school” and is a fairly niche product.
